Position summary:
The Account Executive actively manages a book of business to ensure each client’s welfare benefit plan needs and goals are met. This involves managing annual benefit enrollment periods, and overseeing the transfer of coverage to new vendors, providing first-rate benefit plan service, resolving day-to-day service issues and concerns, maintaining accurate and up-to-date benefit plan documents, providing oversite of insurance carrier service, and assisting with the Request for Proposal process. Proactively acts as the “go to” person for clients welfare benefit plan issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the usual, major job duties, but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties agreed to by the person’s Team Leader.

  • Proactively identifies service issues and keeps the account team, client and other Ovation team members aware and informed of the issues and changes.
  • Oversees and is responsible for the accurate production of SPD’s, contracts and plan summaries.
  • Conducts monthly formal service calls between the clients and carriers.
  • Responsible for developing and executing client communication strategies with carriers.
  • Maintains accurate and complete client file information in the Ovation Customer Relationship Management System called Sales Logix.
  • Proactively and successfully develops, manages and executes the client’s Strategic and Tactical Action Plan.
  • Coordinates and has overall responsibility and ownership of client projects.
  • Manages and oversees all aspects and details of implementations activities, and is responsible for achieving smooth and accurate carrier transitions.
  • Responsible for managing, coordinating and conducting all open enrollment activities as needed, including the development and loading of accurate information in the Ovation Decision Support Tool.
  • Develops “best- in- class” relationships with clients and carrier reps.
  • Acts with a high degree of urgency to resolve service issues.
  • Constructively provides feedback to carrier reps, as necessary, for service issues.
  • Develops, implements and executes wellness strategies including health fairs, health risk assessments, biometric testing, “lunch & learns” and health and wellness calendars.
  • Keeps self abreast of and is up-to-date on industry and carrier trends.
  • Shares best practices with other team members within Ovation.
  • Maintains accurate and complete documentation related to clients.
  • Some travel required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills & Knowledge Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. A degree in business, human resources, health care administration and other related areas are a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the welfare benefit plan industry, working with an employer, insurer/administrator or broker in the 50+ employer size market.
  • Strong knowledge of medical, dental, disability, life, pharmacy and CDHP products.
  • Superior customer service skills are a must.
  • Public Sector experience a plus.
  • Effective public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to work independently and be detailed oriented, organized and resourceful, motivating others inside and outside the firm to accomplish goals.
  • Has a working knowledge of multiple funding arrangements.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Works well within a team environment.
  • Healthcare claims processing background a plus.
  • Must have the ability to work under pressure and multi-task.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with others.
  • Connecticut Life, Accident and Health producer license preferred.
  • Proficient use of Excel, Word & Powerpoint.
