Farmington-Based Ovation Benefits Named 2011 Healthiest Small Employer by Atlanta Business Chronicle
March 9, 2011
Farmington, CT - Ovation Benefits, a national leader in workforce health improvement and one of the largest independent benefits brokers in the country, announced today that the organization has been named winner of the small company category in Atlanta Business Chronicle's 2011 Healthiest Employer Awards.
Ovation Benefits opened an Atlanta office last year, and brought with it a decade-long history of demonstrated commitment to employee health and wellness. Ovation leadership has been increasingly determined to develop a better understanding about the risk factors driving health expenses and their connection to preventable illness. Out of that understanding has come what Ovation Benefits sees as the best solution to reducing health costs, which is the adoption of a Health Improvement workforce initiative called TakeCharge.
TakeCharge is a revolutionary product platform in which an employee's clinical lab data is used to create a custom health improvement plan. TakeCharge is more than a pillar of Ovation's suite of client servicesthe Ovation team knows the product first hand because it is an essential component of their own benefits.
Initial benchmark data is based on data recorded during a routine physical and preliminary blood work. After the results come back, if an employee has met the benchmarks established by the company, they receive an incentive of either a cash amount or money towards their Healthcare Savings Account.
“If employees do not meet the benchmarks, our team works with them to develop a program to improve their health” said Bill Mauke, Ovation Benefits partner and Workforce Health Practice leader. “The purpose of doing that was not to penalize our people for being unhealthy, but rather to make sure that there was a very clear understanding of what good health actually means.”
The primary focus of Ovation Benefits' Health Improvement efforts is in the management of chronic health issues, but also includes fitness and nutrition education and support. “I can't express my thoughts enough to say how wonderful it is to have senior leaders in our organization embrace this program in the least 10 years” said Nicole Consiglio, Health Improvement Coordinator. “We started out long ago with something small and simple and it has morphed into a truly wonderful program that would not have gotten this far without senior-level support.”
