Ovation Benefits Employees Donate $500 to Hartford's Foodshare as Part of Health Navigators Risk Reduction Program
April 20, 2011
Farmington, CT - Ovation Benefits, a national leader in Workforce Health Improvement and one of the largest independent benefits brokers in the country, is donating five hundred dollars to Foodshare, Hartford's food bank. The donation is being made as part of the employees' commitment to Ovation's Health Navigators Risk Reduction program. The donation will be made during a luncheon at Ovation's corporate office at 5 Batterson Park Road in Farmington from 12:30 to 1:30 on April 21st.
Ovation Benefits, recognized as a best-in-class benefits broker and a leading employer in the state of Connecticut is dedicated to the health and wellness of their most important assettheir employees. As part of that commitment employees were asked to take part in Ovation's Health Navigators Risk Reduction program. The program, which is held over an eight-week period, is designed to reduce chronic health risk and foster an overall positive quality of life.
Each week when the employees attended the Risk Reduction classes, they were asked to donate money to an “I Can Change” bucket. The goal of the donation was to illustrate how much they thought they had changed their diet and exercise habits that week. From the outset the employees knew that the funds would be donated to Foodshare. At the conclusion of the program Ovation leadership offered to match the funds, dollar for dollar. Foodshare serves as the Greater Hartford-area's food bank and distributes 16 tons of food each day to a network of 300 local partners that feed hungry Hartford residents.
Janice Traczyk, Director of Business and Support Services says “Foodshare is so appreciative of the efforts of everyone at Ovation Benefits. The donation will make a huge difference to real people in our community. Because of your employees' efforts, Foodshare will be able to provide enough food for 30 kids to receive meals at a partner Kid's Café location until the end of the school year. For more on our partnership with Kid's Cafe you can go to Foodshare's website, www.foodshare.org and click on Ongoing Projects. Thank you!”
“We are so pleased to be able to make this donation to Foodshare.” says Bill Mauke, Ovation Benefits Partner and Workforce Health Practice Leader. “It's inspiring to see how the little 'changes' we make every day can add up, and to see the cumulative impact these changes can have on our own health as well as those in need.”
